New trams in Prague will run on unique wheels from Bohumin Print E-mail
Bohumin, 21st April 2008 - BONATRANS GROUP a.s., a member of the financial and investment group KKCG, takes part on delivery of components for the new low-floor tram ŠKODA ForCity. The biggest European railway wheels producers has delivered to Škoda Transportation 48 wheels for the first three prototypes of trams for Prague city transport. The new tram design is 100% low-floor. This has required a completely unique design of wheels that will also serve as brake discs.

New trams for Prague city trams are a new, 100% low-floor solution. That completely changes requirements on wheel that will carry the new tram. BONATRANS GROUP has developed a completely new wheel that Mr. Jakub Weimann, the company commercial director describes in this way: “As the tram is fully low-floor it was necessary to resolve a problem with insufficient space for a standard brake system. Bonatrans, together with Škoda Transportation, has designed a complete unique wheel. Its exceptionality is in the fact that the wheel serves also as a brake disc. The resilient wheel is rubber sprung which enables considerable reduction of noise in running through the city.”

“The contract for Prague trams is a prestigious order for us, “ says Mr. Weimann. About 5% of BONATRANS GROUP production remains in the Czech Republic. The rest is delivered to more than 70 countries worldwide.

BONATRANS GROUP resilient wheels carry rolling stock in Turin (Italy), Oslo (Norway), Alicante (Spain), St. Petersburg (Russia), Istanbul (Turkey) and many other cities. The tram wheel is among the smallest products of the company. Its weight is 220 ks, diameter 660 mm. Maximal speed is limited to 120kph due to rubber cushioning.
